Using Guide
This page covers how to get the most out of Guide — what kinds of questions work well, how to create data through chat, and how to manage your usage quota.
Starting a conversation
Navigate to the Guide (chat) page and type in the input at the bottom. Press Enter or tap the send button.
Guide maintains conversation history within a session so you can follow up on previous messages — "What about last month?" or "Show me the ones I rated above 8" works in context.
Asking about your archive
Guide has full read access to your Terra data. Useful question patterns:
Lookups:
- "What did I log on March 15th?"
- "Show me my last five journal entries"
- "What's my current streak for the meditation habit?"
Summaries:
- "How many workouts did I do in April?"
- "What's my average mood for this month?"
- "Give me a breakdown of my media by type this year"
Cross-section questions: These are where Guide is most valuable — questions that no single section can answer:
- "What was my mood like during my last vacation?"
- "Which of my habits correlates most with Radiant mood days?"
- "What parks have I visited with my family?"
Creating entries through chat
Guide can create data in Terra directly from a message. Describe what you want:
- "Add a task to call the dentist on Friday with high priority"
- "Log a 45-minute run this morning, moderate difficulty"
- "Create an event called Book Club for next Tuesday at 7pm"
- "Add a journal entry for today titled 'Good day' with a mood of 4"
When Guide creates something, it shows a confirmation card with the created entry's details.
Attaching images
Tap the + button next to the input field to attach an image. Guide can use images as context — useful for things like asking about a photo from a trip, or providing visual context for something you want to describe.
Supported formats: PNG, JPG, WebP, and most standard image types. HEIC/HEIF files are not supported for attachments.
Managing your quota
The header shows your current model and a quota progress bar:
- Normal (under 75%) — no action needed
- Amber (75–90%) — getting close; consider switching models
- Red (90%+) — nearly at limit; switch models to continue
Use the model dropdown in the header to select a different model. Each model has its own separate quota, so switching resets your available capacity for that session.
Reading rich cards
When Guide retrieves or creates structured data, it renders it as a card in the conversation:
- Workout cards show exercises, duration, difficulty
- Event cards show title, date, location, attendees
- Task cards show title, due date, priority, status
- Vacation cards show destination, dates, rating
These cards are display only — to edit an entry, navigate to its section in the app.
Common questions
Can Guide modify existing entries? Yes — Guide can update entries you describe. "Change my workout from yesterday to hard difficulty" or "Mark the Buy Groceries task as complete."
Does Guide remember past conversations? Guide has context within your current session. Very long sessions may eventually lose early context as the conversation grows. For best results, start fresh sessions for unrelated topics.
Can I pre-fill a conversation topic?
Yes — some sections of Terra link directly to Guide with a pre-filled prompt (like the Habits Consistency Insight). You can also append ?q=your+question to the Guide URL to start with a specific question.
