Tracking Visits

A visit is a single dining experience at a restaurant. Each visit is logged separately, so a restaurant you've been to a dozen times has a dozen visit records — each with its own date, rating, and notes.

Adding a visit

Open a restaurant's detail page and tap Add Visit.

Fields:

  • Date — when you visited (required; defaults to today)
  • Rating — 1–10 for this specific visit (optional; separate from the restaurant's overall rating)
  • Notes — what you ordered, how it was, anything notable about this particular visit (optional)
  • Event — link this visit to an event in your Terra calendar (optional; see below)

Per-visit ratings vs. overall rating

A restaurant has two levels of rating:

  • Overall rating — set on the restaurant entry itself; your general view of the place
  • Per-visit rating — set on each individual visit; reflects how that specific meal went

They're independent. Your overall rating for a restaurant might stay high even when one visit was disappointing, and vice versa. Both are tracked and visible on the detail page.

Linking a visit to an event

If the visit was part of something — a birthday dinner, an anniversary, a work celebration — you can link it to an event from your Terra calendar. The visit then shows the event name on the restaurant's detail page (instead of "Casual Visit") and the event gains a restaurant connection in its own record.

This is useful for remembering not just where you ate but why, and for seeing which events in your life involved which restaurants.

The visit history

The restaurant detail page shows a chronological list of all visits. Each entry displays:

  • The date (month, day, year)
  • The event name or "Casual Visit"
  • Your per-visit rating (if set)
  • Your notes for that visit

You can delete any individual visit from this list without affecting the restaurant entry or other visits.

Editing a visit

Tap any visit in the history list to edit the date, rating, notes, or event link. Save on confirm.

Common questions

Should I update the overall rating after each visit? That's up to you. Some people update it to reflect their current view; others set it once and leave it as a stable signal. The per-visit rating handles the variability while the overall rating stays as your baseline assessment.

Can I log multiple visits on the same date? Yes — there's no restriction on visit dates. Log both a lunch and a dinner at the same place on the same day if that's what happened.

What happens to visit records if I delete the restaurant? All visit records are deleted along with the restaurant entry. If you want to preserve the visit history, change the restaurant's status to Closed instead of deleting it.
